Chu has served in Congress since replacing Hilda Solis in 2009 after previously serving in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. She was born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently resides in Monterey Park. Chu graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974.
