Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, addressed recent events and ongoing challenges in her community through a series of posts on social media.

On May 4, 2026, Chu reflected on the impact of the previous year’s Eaton Fire, stating, “In 2025, our community was devastated by the Eaton Fire, when we tragically lost 19 of our neighbors. If it weren’t for our courageous firefighters, we would’ve lost even more. As the threat of wildfires continues to grow, I remain committed to advancing comprehensive training”.

The following day, she highlighted the resilience of those affected by the disaster: “The Rose family is one of the 6,000 households that lost their home in the Eaton Fire. Yet even in the face of destruction, their resilience never diminished. It was inspiring to attend their groundbreaking as they begin to rebuild. I will keep fighting for federal disaster” (May 5).

Also on May 5, Chu marked Teacher Appreciation Week with a message recognizing educators: “Happy Teacher Appreciation Week to the brilliant educators of CA-28 and across the country! Thank you for your dedication to our students, families, and community. You are shaping the next generation of leaders and building a stronger future for our nation, and I am committed”.

Chu has represented California’s 28th District in Congress since succeeding Hilda Solis in 2009 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park at age 69, she holds a BA from UCLA earned in 1974.
