Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, posted a series of statements on her Twitter account addressing topics ranging from government spending to community safety and early childhood education.
On May 18, 2026, Chu criticized former President Donald Trump’s handling of federal funds, stating in a tweet: “Trump is funneling nearly $2 billion taxpayer dollars into a slush fund for his inner-circle. He is taking money out of your wallet and giving it to his criminal cronies with ZERO transparency. It’s blatant self-dealing. And it’s illegal. My Democratic colleagues and I are”.
Later that day, following reports of violence at a religious institution, Chu wrote: “I am horrified to hear about the deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. My heart is with the victims, their loved ones, and the entire Muslim community. I fully condemn Islamophobia in all its forms. Everyone should be able to practice their beliefs without fear.” This statement was made on May 18, 2026.
On May 19, 2026, Chu marked an anniversary for an educational program by tweeting: “As we celebrate 61 years since @HeadStartgov was founded, we recognize the early childhood education and services the program provides to help children and families succeed. Head Start is a proven success, and that’s why I will continue to fight for increased funding to ensure”.
Chu has represented California’s 28th District in Congress since replacing Hilda Solis in 2009 after previously serving in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park, she graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974.
