Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, addressed recent legislative issues and commemorated the anniversary of a mass shooting in her hometown through a series of social media posts on January 21, 2026.
In her first post, Chu criticized Republican efforts related to federal healthcare funding, stating on January 21: “While millions of Americans are losing health care, Republicans are trying to funnel federal dollars to fake clinics that exist to shame, mislead, and prevent women from accessing abortion care. Later that day, she reflected on the impact of a mass shooting in Monterey Park three years prior. In another post marking the anniversary of the incident, Chu honored victims and discussed legislative actions. The most meaningful way to honor them is to turn our grief into action. On this anniversary, I am reintroducing legislation to expand language”.
Chu has lived in Monterey Park for many years and was born in Los Angeles in 1953. She has served as a congressional representative since replacing Hilda Solis in 2009 and previously held office in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Chu graduated from UCLA with a BA in 1974.
