Judy Chu, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, posted a series of tweets addressing immigration enforcement and abortion rights in the United States.

The following day, on January 22, she criticized U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions in a post stating: “ICE detained a father & his 5-year-old son Liam after they got home from pre-school pick up. ICE then used Liam as bait to try to kidnap more people. Now, Liam & his father are detained thousands of miles away from their home.

Later that same day, Chu marked the anniversary of Roe v. Wade with another tweet: “Today marks 53 years since #RoevWade, and the 4th year without its protections.

Chu has represented California’s 28th District in Congress since succeeding Hilda Solis in 2009 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park, she graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974.
