Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account addressing recent legislative developments and national issues.
On May 21, 2026, Chu commented on the defeat of a Republican amendment to her Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum Act, stating, “I’m relieved that the Republicans’ partisan amendment to my Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum Act has failed. I was proud to vote no because no President should have unilateral authority to decide the content and location of a museum. This is a win for women. We will”.
The following day, on May 22, Chu honored Harvey Milk’s legacy by highlighting his impact on LGBTQ+ rights: “As one of the first openly gay elected officials, Harvey Milk made strides for not only California, but our entire nation. Today, we honor him by celebrating diversity, equality, and recognizing the importance of LGBTQ+ rights. Every person deserves the freedom to live openly and”.
Later that same day, she addressed economic concerns facing American families during Memorial Day Weekend. Chu attributed rising costs to former President Trump’s policies: “This Memorial Day Weekend, American families are facing higher costs because of one main reason: Trump. Trump’s illegal war in Iran has increased gas prices, while his tariffs increased the cost of foods including fresh produce and beef. Americans shouldn’t have to make”.
Chu has been an active member of Congress since replacing Hilda Solis in 2009 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park, Chu graduated from UCLA with a BA in 1974.
