Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account addressing religious celebrations, immigration detention deaths, and federal spending priorities.
On April 1, 2026, Chu extended holiday greetings to Jewish constituents and others observing Passover: “Chag Pesach Sameach to our Jewish community celebrating across CA-28 and around the world! May this season of renewal bring peace, joy, and meaningful time with loved ones.”
The following day, she commented on the death of Jose Guadalupe Ramos-Solano in Adelanto immigration detention center: “Jose Guadalupe Ramos-Solano is the fifth death at the hands of Adelanto since Trump took office. This needs to end. I have been calling for the closure of Adelanto for years. We cannot let a single other one of our immigrant neighbors suffer and die in custody of the U.S.”
Later on April 2, Chu criticized former President Donald Trump’s policies regarding Middle East conflicts and their impact on domestic programs: “Trump says his aimless war in the Middle East is why we can’t fund what American families need: Medicare, Medicaid, and affordable child care. He has no intention of helping Americans. He doesn’t care about you.”
Chu has represented California’s 28th District in Congress since replacing Hilda Solis in 2009; before that she served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park, Chu graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor’s degree.
