Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, recently addressed a range of issues on her official social media account, including racism, immigration enforcement practices, and STEM education for students.
On March 9, 2026, Chu condemned discriminatory behavior by public officials in a post stating: “Racism and hate don’t belong in American society, and this bigotry from an elected official is abhorrent.”
Later that day, she highlighted the case of Masuma Khan, a long-term Altadena resident who was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Chu wrote: “Masuma Khan has lived in Altadena for nearly 30 years. Last year, despite having no criminal history, she was detained by ICE and denied the medication she needed to breathe. Her family contacted my office, and we successfully advocated for her release. Stories like hers are”.
On March 10, 2026, Chu celebrated student achievement in computer science through an annual competition: “I was thrilled to host my 7th Annual Congressional App Challenge and celebrate the creativity, talent, and innovation of students in our district. Thank you to @CongressionalAC for helping inspire the next generation of coders and problem solvers. #Congress4CS #HouseOfCode”.
Chu has represented California’s 28th district since succeeding Hilda Solis in Congress in 2009. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park at age 69, Chu graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974.
