Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, has recently used her social media platform to address issues ranging from government transparency to small business challenges and mental health awareness.

On May 7, 2026, Chu posted about concerns regarding the Social Security Administration under former President Trump: “Last year, I pressed Trump’s Social Security Administration on why they removed a bunch of customer service performance metrics from their website. Without this transparency, SSA is only continuing to underperform and harm the tens of millions of Americans who rely on them.”

The following day, May 8, she commented on the impact of tariffs during Small Business Week: “As #SmallBusinessWeek comes to an end, we should be celebrating the entrepreneurs and local businesses that strengthen our communities. Instead, Trump’s harmful tariffs are forcing many small business owners to make painful decisions about layoffs, raising prices, and whether”

Later that same day, Chu highlighted Mental Health Awareness Month: “May is Mental Health Awareness Month. As the only psychologist in Congress, I will continue to fight for affordable and accessible mental health care. If you or someone you know is struggling, don’t be afraid to ask for help.”

Chu’s advocacy reflects her background as a psychologist and legislator with a long history in public service. She was born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently resides in Monterey Park. Before joining Congress in 2009—succeeding Hilda Solis—she served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Chu graduated from UCLA with a BA in 1974.

Her recent statements underscore ongoing debates about federal agency accountability under previous administrations as well as economic pressures facing small businesses due to trade policies.
