Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, has highlighted several community and national issues in recent social media posts.
On May 3, Chu posted about her participation in an annual ceremony honoring women: “Every year, I am reminded of the extraordinary impact women have in shaping our communities. The annual Women of the Year Awards Ceremony is among the highlights of my year. I’m so proud of these role models and am honored to recognize them.”
The following day, on May 4, she addressed recent developments regarding access to a widely used medication: “I am relieved that access to mifepristone has been rightfully restored. As this case proceeds, let’s be clear: Mifepristone was safe and effective when first approved by the FDA over 25 years ago, and it has been for the millions of people who have used it since.”
Later that same day, Chu marked Jewish American Heritage Month with a call for recognition and action: “Happy Jewish American Heritage Month! Let’s recognize the lasting impact of Jewish Americans, whose resilience, creativity, and leadership continue to shape and strengthen our country, and renew our commitment to fighting the spread of antisemitism.”
Chu’s career includes service in both state and federal government. She succeeded Hilda Solis in Congress in 2009 after previously serving in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park, Chu graduated from UCLA with a BA degree in 1974.
