Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, used her social media platform on September 18 and 19, 2025, to address disaster relief efforts and criticize recent healthcare legislation.
On September 18, Chu announced a joint initiative with Congressman Brad Sherman to advocate for federal disaster aid. She stated, “Congress must not abandon disaster survivors. That’s why @BradSherman and I sent a letter today pressing Speaker Johnson & Leader Thune to include, in any federal funding bill, supplemental disaster relief for California fire victims and communities across America.” The same day, she followed up with a post directing readers to further information: “@BradSherman To read more about our letter visit: https://t.co/kiwxhX4o1M”.
The following day, Chu addressed healthcare coverage issues linked to recent Republican-backed legislation. On September 19, she wrote: “15 million Americans kicked off coverage. 24 million hit with premiums up to 75% higher. That’s the crisis Republicans created with their Big Ugly Law—and H.R. 5371 does nothing to stop it. Republicans will fight for tax cuts for billionaires but not for your health care.”
Chu has represented California’s 28th District in Congress since replacing Hilda Solis in 2009 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park, she is an alumna of the University of California, Los Angeles.
