Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, has criticized recent federal decisions regarding food assistance and health care in a series of tweets posted in early November 2025.
Continuing her criticism on November 3, she wrote: “16 million children. 4 million Americans with disabilities. Trump is illegally cutting benefits for people that depend on SNAP to eat. He has the authority and responsibility to use contingency funds so families don’t starve. Instead, he’s choosing to let Americans go hungry. https://t.co/52uUMMIKQH”.
Later that same day, Chu addressed rising health care costs for Californians: “Open Enrollment is underway, but premiums are skyrocketing for nearly 2 MILLION Californians because Republicans refuse to extend ACA tax credits.
While Republicans deliberately hike premiums for working families, Democrats are fighting to reopen the government & lower health”.
Chu’s remarks come as debate continues over funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the future of Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits during ongoing government negotiations.
Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and residing in Monterey Park, Chu has been an active member of Congress since replacing Hilda Solis in 2009 after previously serving in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. She graduated from UCLA with a BA in 1974.
