Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, has recently used her social media platform to address issues ranging from health care affordability to the conditions in immigration detention centers.
On October 15, 2025, Chu shared a link to her op-ed, writing, “@RepNicole @thehill To read my op-ed, visit: https://t.co/H1p2y0u7bZ”. Later that day, she commented on health care policy, stating, “All while Trump and Republicans are making health care unaffordable for millions. By refusing to extend ACA tax credits, they’re forcing families to pay thousands more as premiums, copays, and deductibles double or triple. https://t.co/V0Fs2Jww7m”.
On October 16, 2025, Chu addressed the death of an immigrant in federal custody, writing, “Ismael Ayala-Uribe’s death while in ICE custody was a preventable tragedy. His pleas for help were ignored by those responsible for his care until it was too late. At just 39-years-old, Mr. Ayala-Uribe is the latest victim of the Adelanto ICE Processing Center’s proven track https://t.co/gyehaL7kpG”.
Chu has been a member of Congress since 2009, succeeding Hilda Solis. She previously served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006 and holds a BA from UCLA. Born in Los Angeles in 1953, she currently resides in Monterey Park.
