Judy Chu, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 28th district since 2009, used her social media platform this week to criticize recent Republican-led legislative efforts related to health care and energy funding.
On September 3, Chu stated: “No matter how Republicans spin it, their law still strips health care from 15 million Americans while giving massive tax cuts to billionaires.”
The following day, she addressed rising energy costs and criticized an appropriations bill put forth by Republicans. On September 4, Chu wrote: “Republicans promised to lower costs, but electricity bills are up nearly 10% this year. Now, Republicans’ energy appropriations bill cuts clean energy funding for all 50 states. For CA, it cuts funding by 57%—about $78 million—and revokes over $5 billion from the Bipartisan”. In a subsequent post on the same day referencing the House Appropriations Committee Democrats’ account, she added: @AppropsDems.
Chu has served in Congress since replacing Hilda Solis in 2009 and previously represented her community in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. She was born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently resides in Monterey Park. Chu is also a graduate of UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree earned in 1974.
