Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, posted several statements on April 15, 2026, addressing tax policy and disaster relief issues.
In a post made on Tax Day, Chu criticized former President Donald Trump’s tax law, stating: “Today is Tax Day, and Trump continues to disappoint everyday taxpayers while rewarding the ultra-wealthy. Under Trump’s tax law, individuals earning over $1 million/year received $96k in tax cuts, while working Americans making under $50k receive a meager 68 cents/day. That’s” (April 15, 2026).
Later that day, Chu commented on hazard mitigation funding decisions: “Let the record reflect, we have agreement. Cancelling billions of dollars in already-awarded hazard mitigation funding was a disastrous & illegal decision. Even with this agreement, natural disaster survivors in my district & across the country are still struggling to rebuild” (April 15, 2026).
Chu also described her participation with the House Ways and Means Committee regarding economic policy: “On Tax Day, I joined @WaysMeansCmte to defend our working families who are struggling because of Trump’s terrible economic agenda. As millions suffer, Republicans are congratulating themselves for creating one of the most regressive bills in modern history, and doing nothing for” (April 15, 2026).
Chu has represented California’s 28th District since replacing Hilda Solis in Congress in 2009 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. She was born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently resides in Monterey Park. Chu graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1974.
