Judy Chu, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, posted several statements on her Twitter account on September 5, 2025, addressing recent economic and legislative developments.
In a tweet from the afternoon of September 5, Chu criticized former President Donald Trump’s economic policies: “Trump has driven our economy into the weakest job market since his last presidency. Hiring has stalled, jobless claims are climbing, and his illegal tariffs are sending costs through the roof. Hardworking American families are paying the price.” (September 5, 2025).
Later that day, Chu commented on new legislation in Texas regarding abortion access: “Texas just passed a law allowing private citizens to sue anyone who manufactures, distributes, or provides abortion pills in or to the state for $100k. This is how Republicans are building a national abortion ban.” (September 5, 2025).
In another post from the evening of September 5, Chu described her involvement with @popdemoc and criticized proposed federal spending cuts: “This past week, I joined @popdemoc to call out Trump’s Big Ugly Law, which SLASHES funding for food assistance, education, & kicks 15 MILLION Americans off their health care, all to deliver trillions in tax cuts to billionaires. We’ll keep fighting to reverse cuts to Medicaid and” (September 5, 2025).
Chu has represented California’s 28th District in Congress since replacing Hilda Solis in 2009. Before her congressional service she was a member of the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park at age 69, Chu earned her undergraduate degree from UCLA in 1974.
