Judy Chu, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 28th district since 2009, has posted a series of tweets criticizing former President Donald Trump’s policies on education, employment, and immigration enforcement.
On August 21, 2025, Chu questioned the logic behind cutting programs for English learners, writing: “iN AmErIcA We sPeAk eNgLiSh… Then why is Trump cutting the very programs that help kids learn it? Denying 5 million English learners the support they need is a civil rights violation. We will fight back against this anti-immigrant, anti-education agenda.”
The following day, on August 22, she commented on rising unemployment numbers in the country: “The number of Americans collecting unemployment just hit its highest level in nearly 4 years. Families are struggling. This is Trump’s America: reckless trade wars, more layoffs, and higher prices.”
Later that same day, Chu referenced an incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents: “One week ago, I stood with our community at a vigil for Carlos Roberto Montoya, a father and grandfather who tragically died while fleeing as masked ICE agents raided the Home Depot in Monrovia. He should still be alive today. Trump’s ICE raids are violating court orders,”.
Chu has represented California’s 28th District since replacing Hilda Solis in Congress in 2009 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. She was born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently resides in Monterey Park. In addition to her political career, she graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a BA in 1974.
