Judy Chu criticizes Trump’s English-only executive order as discriminatory

Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, has spoken out against a recent executive order from former President Donald Trump regarding English-only language policies. In a series of posts on August 27, 2025, Chu addressed her concerns about the impact of the order on immigrant and non-English-speaking communities.

On August 27, 2025, Chu wrote: “Trump’s English-only executive order is a deliberate attempt to silence the voices of immigrants and non-English-speaking communities. It’s a disgraceful part of our country’s dark history of discrimination. We cannot allow this administration to unlawfully deny millions of https://t.co/8xNL2Vvfyu”.

In another post made moments later on the same day, she added: “I’ve fought for language access my entire career. That’s why recently led dozens of House Democrats in urging Attorney General Bondi and Trump to reverse these illegal orders, and I’ll keep pushing to expand language access nationwide.”

Chu has represented California’s 28th District in Congress since succeeding Hilda Solis in 2009. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park, Chu is recognized for her longstanding advocacy on issues affecting diverse communities. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA, earned in 1974.
