Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, addressed recent political and economic developments in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) this week. Her remarks covered the impact of tariffs implemented by former President Donald Trump, the role of the Supreme Court in overseeing executive actions on trade policy, and a tribute to former Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
On November 5, 2025, Chu criticized Trump’s tariff policies and their effects on American consumers and businesses. She stated, “Trump’s reckless tariffs have driven up prices on everything from food to furniture, crippled small businesses, and cost hundreds of thousands of American jobs – all to enrich billionaires like himself. And Republicans have done nothing but rubberstamp this chaos & block every” (posted November 5, 2025).
In a subsequent post that same day, Chu called for judicial intervention regarding presidential authority over trade measures. She wrote, “The Supreme Court has an obligation to stand up to this illegal power grab and end this attack on the rule of law once and for all. It’s time to restore accountability to our trade policies and ensure that no president can bypass Congress to impose economic pain on the American” (posted November 5, 2025).
On November 6, Chu turned her attention to House leadership with a message about Nancy Pelosi: “Our nation is stronger because of Nancy Pelosi’s remarkable leadership. She’s spent her entire trailblazing career fighting fearlessly for what’s right and never backing down. I’m deeply proud to call Nancy an idol, a mentor, a colleague and a friend. Thank you, Madam Speaker.” (posted November 6, 2025).
Chu has represented California’s 28th District in Congress since succeeding Hilda Solis in 2009 after previously serving in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and residing in Monterey Park today at age 69, she graduated from UCLA with a BA in 1974.
