Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, addressed two separate issues in recent posts on her official Twitter account.
On May 12, Chu highlighted the approaching expiration of FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program (IHP) for survivors of the Eaton and Palisades Fires. She stated, “On July 9, FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program (IHP) for the Eaton and Palisades Fires will expire. This is a critical lifeline that has already provided $157 million in federal assistance to our community. Yet today, 2 out of 3 survivors have not returned home, with half”. The program has distributed significant federal aid but many affected residents have yet to return home.
In another set of tweets posted on May 14, Chu commented on Taiwan’s exclusion from the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) 14th Ministerial Conference held in Cameroon. She wrote, “Taiwan was excluded from the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference in Cameroon, forced to participate under official visas that list it as a ‘Province of China,’ or sit out of the conference they have full and equal participation in. The implication that Taiwan is not a WTO member in”. She also directed readers to further information: “To learn more, visit: https://t.co/t5enitNgCw”.
Chu has represented California’s 28th District since replacing Hilda Solis in Congress in 2009. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park, Chu graduated from UCLA with a BA in 1974.
