Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, used her social media platform to criticize Republican health care policies and highlight individual stories affected by recent proposals.
On October 21, 2025, Chu posted, “List of Trump’s Priorities: Negotiate with Democrats to reopen the government Lower health care premiums for millions of Americans Destroy parts of the White House to build himself a $250 million ballroom”.
The following day, Chu shared her encounter at a community event, writing on October 22, 2025, “This weekend at #NoKings, I met Carolyn, a self-employed cancer survivor whose treatment costs already stretched her budget. Now the GOP’s plan to rip away ACA tax credits will make her premiums skyrocket. @HouseDemocrats & I will keep fighting for her & every American.”
Later that day, she described another constituent’s experience: “A single mom & small business owner lost everything in the Eaton Fire. Now her health care premiums are jumping from $350 to $800 PER MONTH because Republicans refuse to extend ACA tax credits. This is what Republicans are doing to health care.”
Chu, who was born in Los Angeles in 1953 and has lived in Monterey Park, has been an advocate for accessible health care throughout her tenure in Congress. Before joining Congress, she served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006 and graduated from UCLA in 1974 with a BA. She succeeded Hilda Solis as the representative for California’s 28th district in 2009.
