Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district, highlighted her ongoing advocacy for language access and community safety in a series of posts on April 1, 2026. Chu reflected on her early work in Monterey Park and recent legislative efforts to support diverse communities.
In a post from April 1, 2026, Chu wrote: “Fighting for language access in Monterey Park is how I first got my start in public service. In CA-28, our diverse community depends on translation services to access small business loans, apply for disaster relief, or receive essential medical care.
For over 25 years, language https://t.co/zcy5u7aGve“.
She continued her advocacy later that day by announcing new legislative action: “That’s why I am proud to lead a resolution with @SenAlexPadilla, @RepGraceMeng, and @RepEspaillat to recognize April as #NationalLanguageAccessMonth. Language access is a civil right and dismantling these services is a direct attack on our immigrant communities.

Chu also addressed public safety initiatives by sharing news of federal funding for local emergency preparedness: “Yesterday, I was thrilled to deliver $1,031,000 to @SouthPasadenaCA to update critical public safety communications technology. With this federal funding, South Pasadenans will be better prepared, informed, and protected during emergencies. https://t.co/JcT3Z2JPq2” (April 1, 2026).
Chu has represented California’s 28th District in the U.S. Congress since replacing Hilda Solis in 2009. She previously served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park, Chu earned her BA from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1974.
