Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, posted a series of tweets this week addressing local business recovery, national health care policy, and federal authority in Washington D.C.
On September 2, 2025, Chu highlighted her participation in community events in Altadena. She wrote, “This weekend, I joined ribbon cuttings across in Altadena for the reopening of Azalea House Senior Living, Simply Divine Beauty Supply, and Lawrence & Colbert Hair Salon. After losing their businesses in January’s Eaton Fire, they’re rebuilding stronger than ever. I’m so inspired”.
Later that day, Chu criticized the administration’s recent health care decisions. In her post dated September 2, 2025, she stated: “This is a devastating setback. From stripping health coverage from more than 15 million Americans to slashing pediatric cancer research, this administration is destroying our entire health care system & putting lives at risk.”
The following morning on September 3, Chu addressed concerns about federal authority in the District of Columbia. She tweeted: “This morning I joined @ACLU and my fellow @HouseDemocrats to say NO to Trump’s authoritarian power grab, whether in D.C., California, or anywhere else. Over 800 people have reached out to my office demanding we defend D.C. and remove the National Guard.”
Chu has represented California’s 28th district since succeeding Hilda Solis in Congress in 2009 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park, she graduated from UCLA with a BA in 1974.
