Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, has posted a series of statements on social media addressing gun violence and calls for transparency regarding Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse cases.
On September 4, 2025, Chu reflected on the mass shooting in her hometown, stating: “My hometown of Monterey Park lost 11 lives and saw 9 injured in a mass shooting. Thoughts & prayers were appreciated, but we needed action. Democrats & Republicans once worked together on gun safety. There are so many common-sense policies that would save lives.” She followed up by criticizing recent actions taken by Republican leaders: “But instead, Trump & Republicans ended the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, spent $1.7 billion to make silencers, and slashed law enforcement funding that keeps communities safe. That’s why I joined 130 Democrats & @HouseGVP urging Speaker Johnson to answer” (September 4, 2025).
In another post dated September 5, 2025, Chu addressed issues surrounding the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse: “Yesterday, I joined the @demwomencaucus to meet with brave survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse. Their stories were horrifying. Why is President Trump demanding Republicans suppress the truth? President Trump, this is not a ‘Democratic hoax.’ Release ALL the Epstein files.”
Chu has represented California’s 28th District since replacing Hilda Solis in Congress in 2009 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park—the site of the referenced mass shooting—she graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
