Judy Chu, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 28th district since 2009, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing concerns about NASA funding and tariffs under the Trump administration.
On September 16, 2025, Chu highlighted her bipartisan efforts to secure NASA funding in an upcoming continuing resolution (CR). She wrote, “Yesterday, @RepDonBacon and I urged @AppropsDems & @HouseAppropsGOP to include clear protections for @NASA funding in the CR. Without this, the White House plans to make deep cuts that would devastate science, weaken national security, & hand space leadership to other countries.” In a follow-up post the same day at 15:39 UTC, she directed readers to more information about their letter: “@RepDonBacon @AppropsDems @HouseAppropsGOP @NASA @exploreplanets To read more about this letter visit: https://t.co/tCVgwSLJ17”
Later that afternoon at 19:42 UTC, Chu criticized tariffs implemented during the Trump administration. She stated, “Trump’s tariffs are driving up prices and fueling inflation. Even the nonpartisan CBO admits it. These tariffs are nothing more than a tax hike on hardworking Americans. And yet, just minutes ago, House Republicans just voted AGAIN to support these tariffs.”
Chu has served in Congress since replacing Hilda Solis in 2009 and previously held office in the California State Assembly from 2001 to 2006. Born in Los Angeles in 1953 and currently residing in Monterey Park, she earned her undergraduate degree from UCLA in 1974.
