Judy Chu, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 28th district, expressed her concerns and condolences in a series of tweets on January 30, 2025.

In her first tweet, Chu addressed comments made by former President Donald Trump. She stated: "Let's be SUPER clear what Trump is suggesting here: an incarceration camp where an undefined 30,000 immigrants will be held indefinitely and receive no due process. We should be closing Guantanamo Bay, not bringing back 1800s-style concentration camps." The post was shared at midnight.

Later that day, Chu extended her sympathies to those affected by a tragic incident at Washington National Airport. She tweeted: "Sending my deepest condolences to all those impacted by the tragic collision at Washington National Airport. Thank you to the first responders who've worked through the night. I'm committed to supporting a thorough investigation to prevent future tragedies like this." This message was posted in the afternoon.

In another statement related to the same event, she criticized remarks made by President Biden regarding accountability for the tragedy. Chu's tweet read: "Despicable. As bodies are still being recovered from the Potomac, the President is highlighting his 'common sense' that non-white air traffic controllers & servicemembers must be to blame for last night's tragedy. Victims' families and all Americans deserve so much better." This comment was made later in the evening.
