Judy Chu, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 28th district, shared a series of posts on social media expressing her critiques of recent legislative developments. Chu, who has served in the U.S. Congress since 2009 and previously in the California State Assembly, addresses several significant issues in her recent statements.
On April 10, 2025, Chu criticized a budget plan pushed through by Republicans. In a tweet, she stated, "After hours of squabbling with far right extremists demanding even more cuts, Republicans just pushed through their horrible budget plan. I spoke on the House Floor to set the record straight: Republicans took an already harmful plan & made it worse for middle-class families."
Later the same day, Chu voiced her opposition to the Republicans' “SAVE” Act. She mentioned voting against it in a tweet, noting, "Today, I voted NO on the Republicans' “SAVE” Act. Republicans justify it w/ Trump's Big Lie & profound misinformation about elections, but it's blatant voter suppression." She emphasized her commitment to ensuring voter participation by stating her refusal "to erect unnecessary obstacles for millions of Americans."
In another post, she addressed the Trump administration's actions concerning antisemitism and their implications for immigrant safety, asserting, "Antisemitism is real. It's growing. It must be confronted. But I'm appalled by the Trump administration's use of Jewish safety to justify their campaign of terror against immigrants and weakening of our democracy. We have a Constitution. Follow it."
Judy Chu has represented California's 28th district since replacing previous U.S. Congress member Hilda Solis in 2009. She was elected to the California State Assembly in 2001, serving until 2006. Chu was born in Los Angeles and has lived in Monterey Park. She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1974.
