On April 9, 2025, Judy Chu tweeted about the ongoing economic impacts of a trade war, attributing the situation to former President Donald Trump. Chu highlighted that the trade war is "costing the average family $4,600 and counting" and mentioned her interaction with the U.S. Trade Representative during a testimony before the House Ways and Means Committee. She described the imposed tariffs as the "largest tax increase on Americans since at least 1968" here.
