Judy Chu, a U.S. Congress member representing California’s 28th district since 2009, has been active in discussing recent legislative and space exploration developments. She previously served in the California State Assembly and was preceded by Hilda Solis in the U.S. Congress. Chu, who was born in Los Angeles, currently resides in Monterey Park.

On April 17, 2025, Judy Chu addressed proposed changes to NASA's initiatives. She referred to a conversation with Representative Don Bacon, Caltech, and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, encouraging the public to "learn more about the proposed cuts to NASA Science and the Mars Sample Return mission" by visiting a provided link.

Later that same day, Chu highlighted a collaborative legislative effort with Representative Brad Sherman. She outlined their shared proposal that seeks to require federally-backed lenders to offer mortgage payment relief for at least six months following natural disasters, articulating that "when disaster strikes, the last thing families should have to worry about is whether they can make their mortgage payment".

Further underscoring the urgent need for this bill, Chu reiterated the impact of natural disasters by mentioning that "with 16,000 Los Angeles homes destroyed by wildfires, it became immediately clear just how urgent and widespread this issue is." She emphasized that the proposed legislation focuses on fairness, stability, and providing time for affected individuals to recover.
