Judy Chu, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California's 28th district, recently expressed her concerns over the potential elimination of the U.S. Department of Education through a series of tweets. Her statements highlighted the negative implications she believes such an action would have on American education and society.

On March 20, 2025, Chu tweeted about the fundamental role of education in national success. She stated: "Education is the foundation of our nation’s success. Full stop. This is a sad day for America, but we WILL fight back." She criticized former President Trump for his alleged preference to cut educational support in favor of tax cuts for wealthy individuals.

In another tweet posted on the same day, Chu elaborated on the services provided by the Department of Education, emphasizing its importance: "The @usedgov funds schools and districts, provides student loans for college, and supports students with disabilities." She warned that eliminating this department would directly affect students, teachers, and parents.

Further addressing her constituents in California's 28th district, Chu noted specific statistics regarding local education: "In #CA28, 128 public and charter schools serve 85,613 kids—11,044 living in poverty and 1,500 experiencing homelessness." She criticized Trump's fiscal priorities and stated her preference for investing taxpayer dollars in children's education rather than benefiting billionaires.
